Using Al in Group Projects#
AI can take on simulated real-world roles and provide feedback at defined points in a group project. By incorporating AI iteratively, fairness and effectiveness can better be ensured. Over time, the AI’s structured prompts and questions help groups stay organized, think critically, and respond to challenges as they arise. Furthermore, because AI can track both group output and individual contributions, it supports fairer evaluation and reduces the risk of some members doing less work. This support frees the teacher to focus on the parts of collaboration that AI cannot replace such as guiding interpersonal skills, supporting conflict resolution, and fostering critical thinking.
How can you already begin using AI for group projects today#
The following are a few ideas show how AI can fit into group projects. Add them gradually, get input from students, and adjust the approach as you go.
A. AI as a project designer – Use AI to help you create clear materials and information for assignments such as key milestones, rubrics and checklists.
B. AI as a “fake stakeholder” – Students can present their plans to AI acting as a client, investor, or policy-maker. The AI asks probing questions, challenges assumptions, and offers alternative viewpoints. This forces teams to justify their decisions and adapt their work based on realistic client feedback.
C. AI as a coach – Have students reflect alongside AI to improve collaboration, communication, or problem-solving within their group.
